More covers (not procrastinating this time, tho. Honest)

These were done by the amazing Nathan Wrann (@nathanwrann) so I really didn't procrastinate to make them.  And he did these in like 2 seconds so he didn't, either.
I think I like this first one the best.  But I'll put up the other three, also.

They're all awesome, of course.  It's amazing what a difference font makes.  That is the true art of ebook covers, I think.
Thanks, Nathan!

  1. I'm torn between the first and the last one. The font is definitely a keeper on those two. There's something about the last one being sideways that draws me in. Maybe its cause 'zombies' and 'empty' denote death and it's a view from lying down/maybe dying.

  2. I think the first one has a YA feel to it. Kind of emo and feminine, yet still spooky.

    Although I like the second one too. If you were trying to appeal to adults I think this would work.

    Nathan did a great job.

  5. @SJ Yeah, the last one is growing on me for the same reason. I think I might go with that one, actually.
    Decisions, decisions...

    @Josie
    Yeah, Nathan came up with that one after I told him it was a YA romance. The font totally says that. Nathan is awesome.

  6. Proving once again that you can lead readers to your books, but unless the covers are grabbers, they are NOT going to hit the 'buy now' button.

    Bravo! Compelling, avant garde covers...I wish you the best.

  7. I like the side angle of the last cover the best, but I think the font on the third cover works best. Simple, sparse...it carries the theme of the title better. Just my opinion, of course...but as a writer and one-time graphic designer.

  8. My husband said he likes the last one . He said it looks as if someone was left on the side of the road and they are laying there. Actually that one is growing on me too.

  9. I love the cover of the second one! :) Something about the font!

  10. @Emily - Too true. I sometimes wish that wasn't true. But of course as a reader, that's totally how it works. I'm drawn to covers sometimes without even realizing it till later. Thanks for the comment.

    @SinMac I like that font, too. And it looks like it's fading away a little into nothing (empty?). But I do want to communicate that this is a YA story which I think the curly font does most effectively. These decisions are more art than science, tho, for sure. Thanks for the comment.

    Cheers,

  11. @Josephinewade - yeah, lying on the side of the road - dead - zombies - alone/empty -- it definitely plays that way. I love how covers (art) are so intuitive.

    @Momo
    That font is the most aggressive which kind of fits with the character the most, tho maybe not the overall story for this first one. I'll let you be the judge when it's ready-- you take free arcs, right?

  12. Personally, I actually like the 2nd one (the more scribbled one). It's more, umm... empty? Not as fancy, I guess. Seemed overkill for the message/title.

    Oh, and just a note, but you might want to find out what's meant by "commerical use." Would hate for you to get into trouble.

    I just say that because I use Bleeding Cowboys (the cool font on the 1st and last ones) on my website, and I remember that it said this:

    For commercial usage, please contact me at: gyom.typo@gmail.com

    So, I don't know what the artist meant by that, but since you're using the font directly for something that makes money, it's worth checking out. You're probobly ok, but may be worth a google, though.

  13. Thanks so much, S. I will definitely look into that. And I like your site. :)

  14. Hi Kate,

    I realize I'm late for the party, but for what it's worth:

    I love the last cover (sideways, like you're cheek-down on the roadway waiting for the coup de grace) with the fonts used in the second one. (Not fussy on that font in the last one -- it's an awfully "full" font for such an "Empty" title...)

  15. Not late at all and always welcome, Graham.

    Yeah, the sideways one is the definitely the direction I have decided to go. Despite all this time and thought, I am still undecided on the font. I'll be done in a couple of weeks so I need to make a choice.

    Thanks for commenting.

    PS- How's the novel coming?

  16. I liked the last one though I know you didn't use it in the end! I liked it because I thought the cover would make everybody pick it up just to turn the road right up again!
